Fred Steele Memorial

In October this year we had members of Phoenix Heroes Veteran Carp Angling Club (VCAC) fly out to France to fish two stunning lakes Etang Cache and Lac de Lumiere in memory of Fred Steele who sadly passed away in 2019.

It was the wishes of Fred that his carp angling equipment was donated to a good cause, it was suggested to his family by the British Disabled Angling Association (BDAA) to look at the work Phoenix Heroes is doing in support of veterans and we are so pleased that they made contact with us. Fred's fishing equipment was given to one of our veterans who at the time was in a difficult place but being able to get out fishing has been a huge comfort to him.
The donation from Fred was our very first donation and this was the inspiration behind us launching the Phoenix Heroes Tackle 4 Heroes project and since we have received large amounts of fishing equipment donations from the public allowing us to give to our veterans so they can join us on our fishing events being held around the UK. We owe a great deal to Fred and his family so our memorial fishing trip was just a small way of showing our appreciation, we plan to hold the Fred Steele Memorial Trophy year on year giving other veterans a chance to take part and land their PB!
You only have to look at the pictures to see how much this trip meant to everyone.
We would like to thank Fred`s family for giving us their blessing to hold the event and hope that we can continue doing more in the future, their kind gesture back in 2019 has helped many veterans since, of which we really do appreciate.

A big thank you to the lake owners, they made our Phoenix members feel very welcome making it a very special trip, we will be back!
